A new technology to detect Flavescence Dorée directly in vineyard

FD-kit_portaleFlavescence dorée is one of the greatest threats in viticulture areas in Europe, and it is currently included in the European legislation as a quarantine pest. Following the success obtained with its commercial kit for the detection of Flavescence dorée, based on Real-Time PCR technology, patented and validated at the European level, IpadLab in collaboration with Hyris Ltd and Qualiplante companies, launches on the market the first commercial kit for a quick detection of this phytoplasma directly in the vineyard.
Currently, DNA analysis is the only method to detect Flavescence dorée in a reliable and sensitive way, but this approach, until now, has been limited to laboratories. The new technology developed by the 3 companies associates an easy and quickly-to-use molecular kit with a miniaturized reader, able to help the viticulture operators to diagnose Flavescence dorée in real time.
The molecular kit permits the specific identification of Flavescence dorée in less than 30 minutes, including the sample DNA extraction which is made in two simple operations. The protocol is very easy for the operator: after a fast homogenization of the grapevine leaf sample directly in the field, the crude sap is added into a tube that already contains all the reagents necessary to perform the molecular reaction. Afterward, a miniaturized fluorescence reader instrument, developed by Hyris, the bCUBE, permits to read the results in real-time. This instrument is controlled by a smartphone App and the results obtained could be registered and/or sent as PDF report immediately by email.
