Croatia must give Prosek up

After the theft of Tocai name by Hungary to the detriment of the well-known wine from Friuli, something similar is occurring between Italy and Croatia, again in relation to the protection of brands and marks in the European Union. Croatia is expected to join the EU from July 1st 2013: this entry implies that from that moment on, it will be impossible for Croatia to use the name Prosek, being too similar to that of Italian Prosecco. Prosek is a dessert wine made exclusively from grapes grown in Dalmatia. The processing method involves drying and prolonged fermentation, from which sweet wine is derived. The marketing ban will cover not only the European, but also the Croatian market. Already dressed bottles lying in wineries must be re-labeled
