Tell me which wine you offer and I will reveal your intentions

Foto-3_portaleWhite and red wine, for dinner? Be careful, the choice can reveal your true intentions! As a matter of fact, red wine involves the emotional sphere, is drunk in the most intimate moments and is more linked to the seduction. On the other hand, white wine is more linked to the social and convivial aspects and is related to gaiety, light-heartedness, simplicity, and lightness of spirit. In addition, red wine always tells something more about who proposes it, because due to its complexity it is chosen in a more reasoned way.
These are some of the ideas which emerged from a survey conducted among the visitors of Lombardy Hall as part of Vinitaly 2015 (Veronafiere, March 22nd to 25th) by the Observatory of Household Consumption (Osservatorio sui Consumi delle Famiglie) of Tesis Department at the University of Verona, commissioned by Movement Wine Tourism Lombardy (Movimento Turismo del Vino Lombardia) in order to trace the symbolic meanings that are associated with the wine by experts, enthusiasts, ordinary consumers.
Debora Viviani, researcher of the Observatory, explains: “Red wine is more frequently associated with the story of the territory, and through its flavours and aromas it reminds the material culture of the place that expresses it. White wine is basically associated with simpler playful games, with less involvement by who proposes it“.
Another aspect which emerged during this survey shows that the crisis has changed the consumption habits: the first thing the consumers consider as important is quality and they are willing to drink less, but better. Therefore, a higher quality is pursued, in line with a more general trend that characterizes the whole world of food.
