VCR: the new frontiers in research

VCR, with a production capacity of 60 million grafted and own-rooted vines in more than 4.000 combinations, has been in the 80 years since its foundation the world leading grapevine nursery manufacturer. The presence of VCR in over 30 countries confirms how much the VCR quality is appreciated by vine-growers around the world.
VCR has always believed in research as the driving force to keep its positions as a world leader, providing for high-quality products under the genetic and phytosanitary profile. VCR was the first, together with the Experimental Institute of Conegliano Veneto, who believed and invested in clone selection, creating, way back in 1965, the VCR Experimental Centre, which is still today an important national and international reference point.
Genetic improvement programs through clone selection have led to the registration of over 300 original VCR clones of international, national and local varieties (both Italian and other major wine Countries). Today, the morphological, genetic and sanitary level of nursery productions have achieved such quality standards that could be hardly improved further, therefore the main goal has become now the quest of new grape cultivars and rootstocks apt to meet the requirements of growers around the world.
In partnership with the University of Milan, VCR are testing the yield and quality responses new rootstocks that are resistant to extreme soil and climate conditions (low temperature, drought). With the University of Udine and the Institute for Applied Genomic of Udine, VCR are assessing yield behavior and oenological outcomes of new wine grape varieties, which are characterized for their high productive and oenological potential, but especially for their resistance to downy mildew and oidium.
Continually updating its offer VCR intends to give a contribution to innovation, by offering the nurserymen a wider range of products, responsive to the ever changing needs of the market.
