Verdicchio is the winning white wine in Italy

Verdicchio (a wine produced in the Marche Region of Italy) is the still white wine that has won the most awards by Italian wine guides for 2014. This revelation has come forth in a study conducted by Gabriele Micozzi, Professor of Marketing at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, working with the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini (IMT), that catalogued the winning wines and awards assigned from six notable publications (Bibenda, Slow Wine, Gambero Rosso, Vini d’Italia de L’Espresso, Veronelli, Vinibuoni d’Italia 2014). The analysis was structured along two lines: wines that won at least one award in the reviews and a second analysis of the credibility, reliability and readership on the part of the consumers of these wine guides. With 24,000 tonnes of grapes produced in the 2013 season, Verdicchio is the leading wine produced in the Marche territory and also the most exported with over 50% of the bottles leaving the country. The Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini guarantees the authenticity of the numerous wines in the territory and has been supporting the local producers since 1999.
